The pavilion of the Guayasamín Foundation exhibits the art collections of Oswaldo Guayasamín, an outstanding Ecuadorian painter, draftsman, sculptor and muralist recognized worldwide.
His extraordinary virtues for painting stand out at the beginning of his academic life which was somewhat complicated. His name and native origin, the poverty of his childhood, the murder of his friend, the overwhelming crisis of the 1930s, the Mexican Revolution, the Spanish Civil War, and everything that is happening in the world makes him see and feel a reality that is sharpened with the passage of time and in front of which it assumes an ideological attitude that is reflected in its plastic conception.
In 1940 he graduated from painter and sculptor at the Fine Arts School. Two years later he gets his first Mariano Aguilera award.
Since 1996 he began his most important work in Quito, the architectural space known as "The Chapel of Man", as a tribute to the human being, especially the Latin American people with their suffering, struggles and achievements, passing through the pre-Columbian* world, the conquest, the colony and the miscegenation. Oswaldo Guayasamín died on March 10, 1999, even though he did not finish his masterpiece, "The Chapel of Man", whose first phase was inaugurated in 2002.

It means "The Crying Way" in Quichua. These paintings from 1946 to 1952 reflect a vision of the mestizo, Indian and black peoples, with their cultures and expressions of joy, sadness, tradition, identity, religion, especially of the Andean countries.
The Wrath Age:
The works were painted in the 60's due to war conflicts* and social injustice and show all the tragedy of the twentieth century, wars men kill, torture and pain produced by dictators, the anguish of mothers who they lost their children.
The Tenderness Age:
"While I live I always remember you" or "La Ternura", another collection with more than 100 works, which he painted from 1988 to 1999, is a tribute to his mother, the mother, as a symbol of the defense of life.
